APR Success In Utah!

TOOELE, Utah (Sept. 21, 2008) - Sunday's Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series race at Miller Motorsports Park was a success for the APR Motorsport Volkswagen GTI team...at least for our teammates. Ian Baas and Dion von Moltke's #171 Volkswagen GTI finished the 44-lap race in second, giving APR Motorsport its first podium! Randy's #181 GTI with co-driver Mark White had issues and adventures and did not have the race they were hoping for. Both teams started out great with fast times in practice and great qualifying runs. Mark White qualified the #181 in the fifth position while teammates Ian and Dion started on the outside pole.

From the beginning of the race, Mark was battling over-heating problems and was forced to keep the car in clean, open air and avoid following other cars closely and thus had to let a few cars go by. He did a great job and stayed in contention and when he pitted around half way, was back up to first place. Randy jumped in the car and was all set to leave the pits when the fuel hose came apart, causing fuel to spill. Randy pulled the car out of the pit immediately and luckily everyone was okay. He had to come back in to the pits to have the fuel nozzle removed and serve a mandatory penalty for the incident. Later in the race, already behind and with five minutes to go, the car began to lose power. Randy was able to nurse it home in sixteenth place which, considering the circumstances, was better than not finishing.

"This weekend was quite an adventure. APR Motorsport finally realized its potential, but it was with our teammates, not us. I would like to congratulate the drivers and the team for doing such a great job. Both cars started out fast. Mark did a great job in practice and qualifying and during his stint in the race. Miller Motorsports Park really suited our Volkswagen GTIs well with its high altitude. In the thin air, our turbo charged engines didn't lose power like other non-turbo charged cars so we had an advantage over them. Also this track is bigger than the last few we have been to. Our VWs are heavier and responded better in the wider, faster corners and on the long, front straightaway. It was a good track for us. It is just disappointing that we did not also realize our potential. I am happy that we were at least able to finish."

"I would like to send out a special thank you to Erin Baas, who feeds our team, for the special effort she makes to accommodate my organic, vegetarian, no sugar, whole wheat diet that I require. I really appreciate it! I would also like to thank my personal sponsors Team Janica Racing, Prairie Hills Motorsport Club, ChaseCam, and saferacer.com for their continued support."

Thanks for following friends!
