Its Miller Time!

Tooele, UT (September 18, 2009) - After a whirlwind day of practice, qualifying and racing, Randy and his Compass360 team finished a points-positive third in the Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge Street Tuner race Friday at Miller Motorsports Park. Co-driver Christian Miller qualified the Compass360 Racing #74 Honda Civic Si fifth and ran a strong and steady stint, battling with the Subaru team for points and position. The turning point of the race came during pit stops when the Compass360 team had an excellent pit stop with driver change while the Subaru team bobbled. Randy was able to get ahead of the Subaru and also the BMW, with the Mazda of Tom Long close behind him. As day turned to night, Randy and Tom caught the two APR Volkswagens and battled for the top spot. Lots of paint was traded and there was confusion with Grand Am on the last two laps, but in the end, the APR Volkswagens came out on top with Randy in a close third.

During post-race inspection, the Volkswagens were penalized points and prize money for rules violations but were allowed to keep their finishing positions. The good news is that Christian came out of the race with the points lead and has a healthy position going into the season finale race.

"Drama and intrigue! The track at Miller has a rather high altitude which required the cars to be tuned and recalibrated. Our Compass360 team did an excellent job setting up the cars and my car was extremely competitive. I had a very satisfying drive and was happy to catch up to the leaders. Things got a little crazy at the end when the Mazda made some desperate attempts to pass that turned into crashes for my car and the Volkswagens. Luckily they didn't end our day. Grand Am led several teams to believe the second to the last lap was the final lap, and I was able to pass the Mazda for third place when he thought the race was over and slowed down. That's what we call "Carma."

"I would like to congratulate Christian on his recent marriage to Kristen that I was delighted to attend. I am happy that he was able to preserve his points lead going into the final race. He has run steady all year with no mistakes and is doing a great job. I would like to thank the Compass360 team for the excellent pit stop that made all the difference in the points battle with the Subaru. I would also like to thank my personal sponsors Team Janica Racing, WeatherTech, Prairie Hills Motorsport Club, ChaseCam, and saferacer.com for their continued support.

"Sadly, we recently said goodbye to a great competitor, Paul Hacker, who lost his battle with cancer. Paul, with his brother Karl, were some of my closest competitors in the early years as well as throughout my career. Our condolences go out to his family. We had many great races together."

The next race for the KONI Challenge will be the season finale on October 2-4 at Virginia International Raceway. Randy's next World Challenge GT race will be next Friday, September 25 at 4:15 at his home track of Road Atlanta.
