TAFEL RACING GRAND AM CUP AT TROIS RIVIERES
CUMMING, Ga. - After four days in the scorching Alabama heat at Barber Motorsports Park, it will be a welcome change for Tafel Racing to head north this weekend for the 37th running of the Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres in Quebec, Canada. Eric Lux of Buffalo, NY and Wolf Henzler of Germany will be driving the 175 Tafel Racing Rembrandt Charms Porsche 996 in the GS class race.
Neither driver has competed before on the 1.52 mile street circuit, so they are looking forward to the complexities of the street circuit. "It will be fun to go some place new and compete in a new series," said Henzler "I will learn from this series and a street circuit is always challenging, too." Lux won the first race of the season at Daytona and qualified 2nd at Barber last weekend, but finished further back due to a problem with refueling and no time to make up position in the storm- shortened race. He has also had nine top ten finishes in the Rolex series with one podium finish in the 74 Tafel Racing Rembrandt Charms Porsche GT3. This will be the first Grand Am Cup series race of the season for Henzler who has driven the 72 Tafel Racing NEC Porsche GT3 in the Rolex series all season where he has had 3 class victories and has finished no further back than 6th.
Splitting the GS and ST classes into separate races should make for more competitive racing with fewer cautions. The ST class will race on Saturday and the GS on Sunday after the teams spend Friday in practice sessions to become familiar with the circuit and fine-tune the setup of the car. "Everything must go smoothly on the racing circuit, in the pits, and in the car mechanically to obtain a good result," said Lux recently. "You must also have a certain degree of luck as well as far as playing the yellows right and not losing track position. I believe that in Trois-Rivieres the Rembrandt Charms Tafel Racing Porsche will be very competitive. Wolf and I have been physically and mentally training for this event. I am looking for to Sunday."
The next race in the Grand Am Cup series will be on September 1 at Miller Motorsports Park in Toole, Utah. The series finale will follow in October at Virginia International Raceway.
