Though Mike Stanton and David Murry won Saturday's The Glen 250 Grand-Am Cup race at Watkins Glen International, the real story of the race was the seemingly endless number of crashes, spins, and off-course excursions that prevented the race from developing any sort of rhythm. Indeed, the race featured nine yellows, which accounted for 27 of the race's 64 laps, including the final three. Yet through it all, Stanton and Murry relied on their Porsche's superior handling and braking capabilities to emerge relatively unscathed.

"All of the restarts weren't good for us because we didn't have as much power as some of the other guys, so I had to pick and choose where to make my moves," said Murry.

"I thought we were all pretty competitive today," Stanton added after his fourth win of the season. "We didn't have as much power as some of the other guys, but we had good braking and handling." Stanton now has a commanding lead in the drivers' championship.

The Schuitemaker Motorsports Nissan 350Z, driven by Michiel Schuitemaker and BJ Zacharias, finished second, followed by Greg Wilkins and Robert Julien in the Doncaster Racing Porsche.

In Super Touring, the Turner Motorsports BMW 330i of Bill Auberlen and Tim Pappas was awarded the race win after race officials determined that the Team Lexus IS 300 of Ian James had passed Auberlen during one of the race's many cautions. As a result, James and Chuck Goldsborough, both of whom went to victory lane thinking they had won the race, were dropped to second in the final standings. Bill Fenton and Bob Beede in the Fenton Motorsports Acura RSX-S came home third.

"Bill and I worked very hard during the race and we were hoping that the outcome ended up in our favor," Pappas said. "We are happy with the result. It was a hard race."
