DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 23, 2003) -- Grand American Road Racing Association President Roger Edmondson announced a staff addition and reorganization today intended to expand upon both the company's media and public relations effort and industry and aftermarket relationships.
J.J. O'Malley has joined the Grand American team as the Director of Media Relations, and Director of Communications Patrick Murphy has taken the new position of Director of Business Operations. Christie Hyde, Public Relations Coordinator, has been named Public Relations Manager.
"J.J. has an extensive knowledge of the motorsports media through his many years of working both as a journalist and public relations officer. We feel his experience will aid Grand American in furthering our relationship with the major media outlets," noted Edmondson.
As Director of Media Relations, O'Malley will serve as Grand American's primary liaison with the national and international media.
O'Malley has covered motorsports since 1973. He began his work as a journalist, working as a newspaper writer and assistant sports editor, as well as the news editor of National Speed Sport News under Chris Economaki before moving into public relations in 1984. He served as Watkins Glen International Director of Communications for 14 years and worked in a similar capacity at Homestead-Miami Speedway until moving to Daytona Beach in 2001 to become Senior Editor of ISC Publications, a role that O'Malley will maintain in addition to his work with Grand American.
Murphy moves into the position of Director of Business Operations, where he will serve as Grand American's primary automotive industry and aftermarket contact, in addition to continuing his supervision of Grand American's contingency programs.
"Pat has a wealth of contacts within the industry that we can now take full advantage of in his new position as Director of Business Operations," noted Edmondson. "He will also expand his work with our results database to ensure that we provide both sponsors and the media with accurate, understandable statistics."
In her role as Public Relations Manager, Hyde will continue to run Grand American's day-to-day and at-track media and public relations effort, in addition to working closely with the tracks to increase coverage in the local market media.
