North Canton, OH -- A major change in the Planet Earth Motorsports camp this past off-season saw them trade in their Grand Sports I Chevrolet Corvette for a Grand Sports II Porsche 911 Type 996. When looking for a car to campaign, the team looked no further than the experts at SpeedSource Inc., Race Engineering.
"When we made the decision to get the GSII Porsche, we looked to SpeedSource first," said Wayne Nonnamaker, the 2002 Sports Touring II Champion who will be moving into the GSII ranks with his father, Joe. "They have ten wins in these Porsche 911's, more than any other Porsche team in Grand Am Cup history. They know more about Porsches than anyone. We are very excited to be carrying their name on our car this season, but more importantly having them as a partner for the season."
SpeedSource owner Sylvain Tremblay was equally excited about the campaign: "In 2001 we won the Championship with the car Planet Earth will campaign, so we are expecting them to add to that car's heritage. They proved they can win in the GS classes with their Phoenix victory last season, so this is an exciting addition to our 2003 plans."
With ten wins in the Grand Am Cup, SpeedSource is the second most winning team in the two year history of the Grand Am Cup. In addition to their involvement with the Planet Earth Motorsports effort, SpeedSource will campaign two Porsches in the Grand Sports I class.
Planet Earth Motorsports was founded in 1996 by Will Nonnamaker in an effort to educate the automotive industry about environmentally safe practices.
