Sunrise, FL -- Robinson Motor Sports, headed by Mick Robinson of Melbourne Florida, has announced a two-car team for the 2004 and 2005 Grand Am Cup seasons. Frank Howard of SouthPaw Racing Enterprises and Rodney Thompson of Cairsea Racing have joined with Robinson Motor Sports to make the two car effort a reality. Looking for the best package to compete with in the Grand Am Cup series, the team enlisted SpeedSource Race Engineering to build them a pair of Mazda RX-8s.
Both Howard and Thompson were elated to hear that SpeedSource Engineering would provide race ready RX-8's for their racing projects. "I had told Mick late last year to keep his eye out for a program in a professional series. He called me from the Grand Am Cup Daytona race and said that SpeedSource was leading the race in the brand new Mazda RX-8 and the cars were available." Howard continued. "I told him to get the necessary information about the cars and ordered one to be built a week later."
"With the cars being built by SpeedSource and fielded by Robinson Motor Sports, I knew that was a strong team" Thompson stated. "I began my racing career with Robinson Motor Sports as a true novice and along with their race prep and driver coaching, I moved to the front of the fields and started winning races."
"I've run with Robinson Motor Sports since I started racing" Howard stated. "Together we have run to the front and won. Mick and his crew have had the ability to field a safe, fast and reliable car for me in the past and I expect the same with this new endeavor."
Rodney Thompson, Managing Director of Cairsea Services Ltd., a transportation logistics company based in the Turks and Caicos Islands on the rapidly growing Caribbean island of Providenciales, has long used Cairsea Racing to help promote tourism for the islands.
"I believe that participating in the competitive televised professional Grand Am Cup Series in the new Mazda RX-8 will be a strong marketing platform from which to introduce participants and fans to a unique vacation destination."
SpeedSource Race Engineering competes in the Grand Am Cup Sport Touring class with the Mazda RX-8 platform. In addition to being one of the most successful teams in Grand Am Cup history, SpeedSource Race Engineering provides race ready Mazda RX-8s for other teams to compete in the series.
