Limoges impresses in Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ (May 13, 2006)-- Valerie Limoges had a break-out drive at Phoenix International Raceway on Saturday in the Avondale Mazda Twin 200 in the Blackforest Motorsports Group No. 4 USG Sheetrock/Ramset Tools Mustang FR500C. Limoges started from twenty-second in the field, and moved up steadily before turning the car over to co-driver Ian James in the top three.

James, who has visited the podium at Phoenix in a wide variety of cars and classes, worked his way back up the order after the pit stop shuffled the order, but ran out of laps before he could make it back into the top ten to finish eleventh.

The race ran under green-flag conditions for the entire 101 lap race distance, a marked difference from the opening three rounds of Cup competition, which featured multiple yellow flag periods in each.

The race was the first visit for Limoges to the desert facility, as the rookie racer has proven herself to be a quick learner thus far in 2006 and was unfazed by the heat, which reached 111 degrees in the shade during the race.

"That was a pretty good race for me I guess," said Limoges. "The car wasn't handling that great in the infield, but the Mustang was very fast on the straights and I was able to make a lot of passes and keep the cars behind me. We had a good pit stop and a great driver change, so things went pretty smooth for us."

Limoges has finished tenth and fourth in the last two Cup events, and is looking to keep that kind of momentum up as the season moves forward.

"As long as we keep finishing all the races, we should be in a good position in the championship," said Limoges, who was eighth in the points before the race started. "We have to make up some of the ground that we lost in Daytona, but hopefully we can keep this up."

Limoges will race again on Memorial Day weekend as part of the Lime Rock Park GT Series Challenge event.
