TMS Drivers Adding Flame To The Heat In Arizona
PHOENIX INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY, Phoenix, AZ - 09/08/2005 - With only two rounds remaining in the season, Turner Motorsport drivers are focused heavily on finishing races with as many points as possible. Heading into this weekend's event at Phoenix International Raceway in Arizona, Turner Motorsport drivers are second in the GS class and fourth and fifth in the ST class.
After winning the last race at Mid Ohio, TMS pilot Justin Marks narrowed the margin in the overall GS standings to 22 points behind David Empringham. Marks' co-driver Bill Auberlen improved to fourth place overall. Auberlen and Marks are on a roll with the Baker Sox/H&R Springs BMW M3 with two wins and three straight podium finishes in a row.
In the ST class, H&R Springs/Borla Exhaust BMWs have been at the top all season and nipping at the heels of the Mazda RX-8 team. Two weeks ago at Mid Ohio Will Turner and Don Salama could taste victory until lap traffic killed their chances and they settled for the second step on the podium (their fourth top-three finish of the season). They scored a second-place finish in last year's Phoenix race.
A podium finish narrowly escaped Steve Pfeffer at Mid Ohio but he retains fifth place in the standings. Pfeffer will be driving again with Tim Pappas in the #97 H&R Springs/Turner Motorsport BMW 330i. The #97 BMW is an early favorite as Pfeffer is an instructor at the nearby Bondurant Driving School.
This weekend's sessions will be split; GS and ST classes will have their own Practice, Qualifying, and Race sessions. Practice begins this afternoon at 3:00pm PT and continues through the day. Qualifying for the ST class comes up at 6:00pm PT on Thursday with race on Friday at 4:00pm PT. The GS Qualifying is after the ST race at 6:20pm PT. The GS class race will be at 4:00pm PT on Saturday (right before the Rolex Daytona Prototype race).
The SPEED Channel will broadcast the ST race on Saturday, October 15 at 2:00pm ET with the GS race two weeks later on October 30 at 1:00pm ET.
