Actor Patrick Dempsey Steps Up to Grand-Am Cup Competition for 2006 Season
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (October 11, 2005) -- Patrick Dempsey, star of the hit ABC television series "Grey's Anatomy" and an aspiring road racing driver, has joined Atlanta-based Hyper Sport and will move up to Grand-Am Cup Series competition in 2006.
The team--which has participated in selected Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series and Grand-Am Cup Series events in 2005--plans to pair Dempsey with Hyper Sport principal and driver Rick Skelton, and Dempsey is expected to test the Hyper Sport BMW M3 and other cars extensively in preparation for the 2006 campaign. In addition to the Grand-Am Cup Series effort, Hyper Sport again plans to field its No. 9 Infiniti Doran in the Rolex Series with Skelton and his fellow team principal, Joe Foster, sharing the driving duties.

Additionally, Patrick is intimately involved in the planning and marketing of the Hyper Sport Daytona Prototype program as it continues to develop."
Dempsey has been an avid open-wheel and sports car racing fan for several years and participated in the Toyota Pro/Celebrity race at this year's Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach in addition to attending a racing school. He also competed in Miata Pro Series and Panoz Racing Series events, scoring a best result of eighth in the Panoz Series event at Road Atlanta.

In addition to his current role as Derek Shepherd on "Grey's Anatomy," Dempsey is well-known for his roles in '80s nostalgia films such as Can't Buy Me Love and Loverboy. Dempsey's other film credits include roles in Sweet Home Alabama, Scream 3, With Honors and Outbreak among many others.
Hyper Sport also announced a five-year sponsorship arrangement with Bon Secour Financial, LLC and Safe Harbor Mortgage.
