CANTON, Ohio (April 25, 2003) -- The Nonnamaker family will be busy next weekend at Phoenix International Raceway. The team that the Nonnamakers own, Phoenix ProMotions, will be preparing five cars for three different races. In addition Joe Nonnamaker and his sons, Will (31) and Wayne (24) will be competing in all three of those races.
The action will start on Friday evening for the family with the UnitedAuto Sport Touring 200. Will Nonnamaker will be pairing up with Howie Liebengood in the #43 King Motorsports/Pennzoil Acura Integra. Will is attempting to score his third-consecutive Sport Touring II championship. Joe and Wayne Nonnamaker will be campaigning the #42 Integra in support of Will and Howie's bid at the title. Both Integras will be run under the HRPWorld.com banner.
"We are very excited to get the opportunity to participate in the ST II race," commented Wayne Nonnamaker, 2002 ST II driver champion. "Pennzoil has come on board with the HRPworld.com team this year, and their support has allowed us to get out there and have a go at it"
When noontime on Saturday rolls around the focus will be placed on Joe and Wayne as they campaign the #41 SpeedSource/Planet Earth Motorsports Porsche in the Phoenix Grand Sport 200. The father-son team will be attempting to score their second victory of the season in the Grand Sport II class. The duo won the opening round win at Daytona in the #41 SpeedSource/Planet Earth Motorsports Porsche 911. During the race Will Nonnamaker will be starting the team's #40 SpeedSource / TheRaceSite.com Porsche 911.
When six o'clock rolls around on Saturday evening the team will be entering their #40 and #41 Porsches in the AJ's Fine Foods 250 as a part of the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series. The three Nonnamakers will handle the driving in the two cars for the 250-mile event.
"We will be doing a lot of driving this weekend," commented patriarch Joe Nonnamaker, 2002 GS I Phoenix race winner. "But I think that more laps the better at such a twisty track as Phoenix. Friday's ST II race will be at night, and that will certainly help. I don't think the transition will be too difficult, as the King Motorsports Acuras are so easy to drive."
The HRPworld.com - King Motorsports Acuras bid for the 2003 championship will be supported through partnerships with AEM, American Honda/Acura, Denso Iridium Power, Grill Craft, Hawk Brake, Horizon Audio, Mugen Sport, Pennzoil, TheRaceSite.com, Waikem, Volk Wheels, and ZR Racing Products
