Early Exit From Mosport 200 for McCalmont and Zoom Motorsports

After setting quick time in the pre race practice session for this last weekend's Grand-Am Cup race at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville Canada, the #6 TTL/Leclair/ Mainway/ Tremcar/Matcom/Brumos Zoom Motorsports prepared Porsche 996 of Mike McCalmont and Darren Law was involved in asecond lap incident that ended the team's weekend. The 55th place finishing position marked the first time the McCalmont/Law duo had finished outside the top ten in the 2005 Grand-Am Cup season.

A Short Race

The black and silver Zoom entry had shown competitive speed throughout the Mosport weekend, and McCalmont, of Ancaster, Canada was able to use knowledge of his home track to secure a 29th placed qualifying position in the 55 car field, with a lap of 1:34.022. Shortly after the field took the green flag for the start of the 2 hour 30 minute endurance contest, McCalmont's car suffered a right rear control arm failure that sent him off in the very high speed turn 8 area. Before leaving the track, McCalmont was collected by the #85 entry, and both cars were out on the spot. Neither driver was injured in the incident.

Quotes

Mike McCalmont - Zoom Motorsports Team Principal and Driver
The right rear control arm broke braking at the end of the back straight, and at that point I was just along for a very scary high-speed spin. Along the way, I was hit by another GS car. It certainly is unfortunate that our weekend had to end that way, especially since it looked like we might have the car to beat. It is especially rough for me since we are here in Canada, and I was hoping we could give the home crowd a good show. We'll just to have to clean the car up and get ready for the next race.
