TURNER STRATEGY NEARLY PAYS OFF
MOSPORT RACEWAY, ONTARIO, CANADA (June 17, 2008) -- The Turner Motorsport BMW team showed speed and consistency throughout the recent Koni Challenge race weekend at Mosport Raceway in Ontario. The defending pole-sitter #97 H&R Springs/Nova Derm/OCG/GoToPuertoRico.com BMW M3, driven by Don Salama, started from inside the top ten and the #96 Motul Lubricants/StopTech Brakes BMW M3, driven by Matt Alhadeff, started 15th and soared through the field in the early stages up to ninth place. But it was a gamble on a pit stop that disrupted their chances for victory.
With the two H&R Springs BMW M3s vying for top ten spots, the team made the call for dual pit stops just before the course went to a full-course caution. What would have been a brilliant strategy call turned sour as the two Turner M3s were caught behind the pace car as they resumed the race. That strategy would have put them at the front of the field after everyone else made their pit stop under caution. But stuck at the back of the field, the two Turner M3s were left with no other strategy but to put the hammer down. Bryan Ortiz and Bill Auberlen put in their characteristic blistering pace to pass through the field and finish in eighth and thirteenth, respectively.
In the ST class, VJ Mirzayan and Matt Bell were also slicing through the field in their H&R Springs/Borla Exhaust BMW 330i, on a pace to put them well within the top ten. However, their race ended just shy of the checkered flag when a backmarker GS car hit the #95 330i from behind, resulting in heavy damage and the car could not continue. The team will have their work cut out for them with the next ST race just a few days away at Mid Ohio.

The Turner team will be back on the track this weekend at the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course. It will be an ST-only event for the Koni Challenge with the GS cars getting their own race later in the year at Barber Motorsports Park. The #95 H&R Springs/Borla Exhaust BMW 330i takes to the track on Friday for practice, Saturday for qualifying, and on Sunday for the 2.5 hour race. The Turner team will welcome all race fans, especially BMW club members, into their paddock to get an up close look at the 330i ST car and the two GS class M3s on display.
