MONT-TREMBLANT, Québec (September 13, 2002) -- An impressive field of 24 cars have shown up in the ST class for the eight meeting of the season, at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant.
Wade Gaughran qualified 7th and clocked a 83.634 mph lap in 1:54.068 behind the wheel of the #14 Hyundai Motorsports/Hyundai Tiburon. Team mate Steven Gorriaran will line up his #6 Tiburon on the fifth row and will start from the tenth spot (1:55:465) for the 2:30 p.m. start.
"The car is handling good, but we still need to fine-tune some car components. It is a long 3-hour race, I am positive we^Òll be competitive and running well tomorrow," noted Gaughran.
Grand-Am Cup Street Stock Series drivers got their first taste of Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant yesterday during testing for this weekend's Mont-Tremblant 250. After only a few laps around the course, the newly renovated Mont-Tremblant was an instant favorite among the drivers.
"I've done a lot of racing here. My first race was in 1988, but I've haven^Òt been up here for three or four years," remarked Mark Craig. "I always loved the course, but now its just phenomenal. It's great; I just love being here."
"I think it's a spectacular layout, and its loaded with all kinds of exciting corners. It's everything you look for in a track," commented Steven Gorriaran. "This is definitely the proper racing surface - no chicanes. It's just the way it should be when your driving through the country. It's peaceful, it's beautiful and it's a privilege."
"It's a very nice track. It was built a long time ago with a lot of challenge in all the corners, a lot of blind corners, which is good. But you need to know the racetrack really well. It's really a driver's racetrack, and so far I like it," added Peter MacLeod.
The Mont-Tremblant 250 will get underway at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
