The weekend of September 19 through 21 will be a busy one for veteran Rolex competitor Darren Law and his G & W Motorsports team, as they travel to Cicuit Mont-Tremblant for the Grand American Rolex Sports Car series event. Law is slated to drive the number 8 USI Insurance/The Valley Group/BMW Powered Picchio Daytona Prototype in the Rolex series DP class, as well as the number 6 Porsche GT3 Cup car in the Grand Am Cup GS I class. G & W Motorsports will field both cars.
ROLEX SPORTS CAR SERIES
The main event of the weekend will be the Grand American Rolex Sports Car series 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant endurance event, and both Law and G & W Motorsports are looking to place the Picchio Daytona Prototype on the podium. Law is hopeful that the 15-turn 2.65 mile Circuit Mont-Tremblant, a winding elevation filled track nestled in a picturesque area of northern Montreal, Quebec Canada, will play to the strengths of his machine.
Says Law of the upcoming event, "Just like many of the other teams, we have been hard at work testing the Picchio with a variety of settings. We do most of our testing at VIR, which is like Mont-Tremblant in many ways, with the elevation changes and multiple transitional corners, and we are hopeful that this track will suit our car. Price Cobb has been doing a lot of the recent testing, and I think he has come up with a few speed secrets."
Darren goes on to mention some race strategy, "The circuit is pretty tight, and passing can be tough, so qualifying is going to be really important, but even more important will be having a setup that will keep the car competitive for an entire stint. It is a long race. I'm driving with Andy Lally again, who we can always count on to be really quick and good to the car."
GRAND AM CUP
Law will again team with Chris Dyson for the Grand Am Cup race in the G & W Motorsports Porsche GT3 Cup car. After showing some promising speed at the last race in Mosport, Law is upbeat about his chances at Mont-Tremblant.
When asked, Law said, "Yeah, I think we can definitely do well at Tremblant. I mean, when you look at the lap times we ran at Mosport after that suspension deal, you can see we were right there. To be honest, we just need a little good luck to shine our way."
The 3- hour Grand Am Cup enduro will take place on Saturday afternoon, with the 6-Hour Rolex series event taking place the following day. It is a busy weekend by anyone's standards, but Law enjoys the chance to drive as much as possible.
"Sure it's a lot of driving," says Darren, "but I love it. It can be a little tiring, but just like most competitive drivers out there I spend quite a bit of time away from the track at the gym. I am also looking into a new cool system for my helmet which should help out a bit."
Be sure to catch Darren at the Grand American Rolex Sports Car series 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Trmeblant the weekend of September 19-21.
