SCC: Mitchum Motorsports adds second car

Mitchum Motorsports Adds 2nd Camaro to Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge GS Program:
Atterbury and Aschenbach to Drive #6.2 Camaro
Bucknum and Stout to Drive #6 Camaro

Virginia Beach, VA (January 19, 2011) - Mitchum Motorsports announced today the addition of a second GS class Camaro to the team's Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge program. After a very successful test at The Roar Before the 24 in Daytona, where the team put multiple drivers in the #6.2 Camaro, team principal Chris Mitchum made the decision to expand the team's efforts for the 2011 season.

"We have come a long way in the 12 months since we returned to GRAND-AM competition just prior to the Homestead race last year. The addition of the second Camaro speaks volumes to the team's commitment and level of effort everyone has shown", said Mitchum. "We developed the Camaro last year and it is now poised to run at the front, so adding a second car to the program makes a lot of sense. Two cars, with four top notch drivers, gives us the best chance at winning races and competing for the championship."

"We have a fantastic race car from Riley Technologies and a well developed engine from CRD", added Mitchum. "Now with Chevrolet's return to GRAND-AM road racing, we have all the pieces in place to show the fans the Camaro is the car to beat in 2011."

The driving lineups for the two Camaros are Joey Atterbury and Lawson Aschenbach in the #6.2 car while Jeff Bucknum and Robert Stout will race the #6 car. Atterbury returns to the team this season after a strong rookie season including three top-ten finishes in 2010. Bucknum and Aschenbach are both GM factory drivers who bring great experience from GRAND-AM and Robert Stout joins the team straight off his championship season in World Challenge, where he drove his Scion to five victories and nine podiums in just 12 race starts.

Bucknum, who hails from Lake Havasue, AZ, is not new to the series or the GS.R Chevrolet Camaro. He campaigned the 2010 season in a Camaro as well, racing head-to-head against Atterbury and Mitchum Motorsports. He ended the season with three top five finishes and two podiums. Bucknum tested with Mitchum Motorsports at both the Homestead test days in November and the test days at Daytona earlier this month and realized right away Mitchum was a good fit for him.

"Probably the two biggest things I found to be so encouraging at the Daytona winter test days were how well everyone worked together at Mitchum Motorsports and how good the Camaro responded to changes we made each and every session. By the time we finished our last session on track we had the Camaro working as good or better than any Camaro race car I have ever driven", said Bucknum. "The great news is between Joey Atterbury, Lawson Aschenbach, and myself, we were all giving very similar feedback to our race engineer, John Bobbitt, on how the Camaro was handling. John and the rest of the crew did a great job making changes to the car each and every session that improved the handling and made it easier for us to drive. Chris Mitchum has done an outstanding job putting together a great group of guys that work on the Camaro who genuinely want to be the best! From day one they have all made me feel at home allowing me to relax and do the best job I can for them. I am very excited about getting the season started - proving the Camaro is ready to win races and a championship in the hands of Mitchum Motorsports."

The 2010 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge ST class co-champion, Lawson Aschenbach, tested with the team at Daytona and is thrilled to have signed with Mitchum Motorsports for the 2011 season. As a GM factory driver he brings a wealth of knowledge and support that will help elevate the team. "I can't thank Chris Mitchum and General Motors enough for the opportunity. It's an honor to be joining Mitchum Motorsports for the 2011 season and Chris has put together one top-flight program", said Aschenbach. "The #6.2 Chevrolet Camaro GS.R felt great during the preseason test and I'm confident we will be racing for wins this year. Joey is one of the true up-and-coming drivers in GRAND-AM and we are both excited to be working together for the season!"

Stout is fresh off of his championship season in World Challenge and is well prepared for the new series in a new car. "It's an honor to join this team! After the first five minutes of conversation with Chris at Daytona I knew he and his team were a good choice. They are on the same path I'm on in regards to driver development. They are also on the same path when it comes to winning and have proved it by putting me with an extremely talented co-driver in Jeff Bucknum. This is a great opportunity and there is no doubt that I will be pushed hard with all the talent on this team - I look forward to the challenge".

Sunoco Fuels, GM, Lucas Oil, E3 Spark Plugs and Rockstar Energy Drinks Sto ponsor #6.2 and #6 Mitchum Motorsports Camaros

Mitchum Motorsports is pleased to announce the car sponsors for the GRAND-AM 200 at Daytona International Speedway. GM, Sunoco Fuels, Lucas Oil, E3 Spark Plugs and Rockstar Energy Drinks are teaming up to support both the #6.2 and #6 Mitchum Motorsport Camaros. The #6.2 will be running in the same flat black and gloss yellow livery that that it sported in 2010 but with the addition of these five new sponsors. The #6 car will run an inverse design - white with black stripes and carry the same sponsor banners as the #6.2 car.

"These five outstanding brands - Sunoco, GM, Lucas Oil, E3 Spark Plugs and Rockstar Energy Drinks - have taken notice of the team's performance and are lending their support to our efforts to win the GS championship in 2011" said Mitchum. "These are all great products and we are excited to be associated with them. To have them come on board both cars in 2011 is an honor for us and we plan to represent them to the best of our abilities. We truly appreciate their support and hope our fans will show their appreciation as well. Without supporters like these we couldn't be as competitive as we are."
