"I went back to Ohio" -The Pretenders
Mansfield, OH (20 June, 2008)-- After moving from racing a six-cylinder rear-wheel drive racer to a front-wheel drive four-banger, most drivers would be happy with three top ten finishes in their first three races since making the switch.
But not Adam Burrows and Trevor Hopwood.
Despite making consistent incremental improvement with each of their 2008 Grand-Am KONI Challenge Championship results (ninth at Daytona, seventh at Lime Rock Park, and fifth at Mosport), the defending ST Class Champions are looking for even more this weekend as they return to KONI competition with the No. 74 Fischer Skis/Compass360 Racing Acura TSX for round four of the 2008 season at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course Sunday afternoon.
Last year, the duo showed strong pace at Mid-Ohio, only to be involved with another competitors' on-track incident, causing an extra pit stop to fix the damage car and forcing the two to take their worst result of the season. With nearly fifty other ST entries slated for the Sunday afternoon event, the two will look to avoid any problems and keep moving up in the championship from fourth in the team championship standings.
"We were pretty frustrated with how this race turned out last year and it made things a lot tighter in the championship than we wanted them to be, so hopefully we can just have a clean race this weekend," said Hopwood. "The Acura TSX should be solid here but the turbo cars will probably be pretty strong like they were at Mosport, so we know that they will be a big challenge but we'll still go for it."
"Mid-Ohio is an awesome track, and I'm looking forward to racing against another big field there this weekend," said Burrows. "It is going to be a busy race, but unlike Mosport we'll only have our own class to contend with, so hopefully that's an advantage for us. The Chevy cars have a serious power advantage, but we will still get everything we can out of this weekend. Ray Lee and all the guys did an awesome job last weekend having the car sorted out for us, and we are looking forward to running back to back weekends on two great tracks."
