Stevenson Motorsports Signs Matt Bell for Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge 2011 Season
Daytona Beach, FL (5 January 2011) - After pushing the development program on the Chevrolet Camaro at every turn for Stevenson Motorsports in the 2010 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge championship, Matt Bell has earned an encore. Stevenson Motorsports announced that the squad has re-signed the young California speedster for the full 2011 season Grand Sport (GS) campaign in the No. 9 Stevenson Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro GS.R.
In 2010, Bell broke through to set a series of impressive new benchmarks in the Chevrolet Camaro for Stevenson Motorsports by scoring the first-ever pole position, podium finish, and first lead laps in the maiden season of competition for the all-American machine. That effort made retaining Bell a priority for the team, which will partner Bell with another exciting young talent in John Edwards.
"I'm very excited to be invited back by Stevenson for 2011, and being part of a very big effort to get the Chevrolet Camaro into victory lane this year," said Bell. "Stevenson made incredible progress last season, and even though that came at the cost of some race to race consistency, we all knew that was part of the development process. The Camaro has incredible potential, and I expect all that hard work will pay off with numerous podium finishes in 2011."
The 2010 season was one that ranged from disappointment to several shining moments with Bell behind the wheel. The 4th-year GRAND-AM driver is targeting a more consistent set of results this season as he looks to improve on his career best result of 2nd in the GS Championship in 2009. During that season he also tied the GRAND-AM record of five pole positions.
"To be driving with another young fast guy like John Edwards is also something I'm really looking forward to," said Bell. "I've had some very quick co-drivers in my career and have tried to learn as much as possible from every one of them, and I feel like John is going to be pushing me, and the Camaro, every step of the way. I think our results will only benefit from that since we have all the other ingredients we need to be successful. Representing Chevrolet is also something that I'm honored to do. Hopefully we'll be quick and consistent over the course of the season, putting us in position for the championship at Mid-Ohio."
The 2011 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season will kick off at Daytona International Speedway on January 28. Bell scored third on the grid for the race in 2009 before scoring his maiden win in the category on the 3.56-mile circuit.
