Eric Lux and Charles Espenlaub drove the No. 44 Team Sahlen's Porsche 996 to victory Friday in the Grand-Am Cup 200 at Daytona International Speedway. The two drivers led 47 of 57 laps of the season-opening race for the 10-race Grand-Am Cup Series.
"Eric handed over the car in good shape," added Espenlaub. "I tried really hard to mess up the win, but fortunately we were able to get it. I can't say enough about my co-driver. He's a young kid, but he's very mature for his age and obviously a very talented driver."
Chris Gleason and Bill Auberlen finished second in the Turner Motorsport BMW M3 and Rob Finlay and Michael McDowell rounded out the top-three in the Finlay Motorsports Ford Mustang GT, giving new sponsor Playboy its first podium finish.
In the ST class, John Schmitt and Dave Roush took the win. The No. 27 Bill Fenton Motorsports Acura RSX-S of Hugh and Mat Plumb came home second, followed by the No. 95 Turner Motorsport BMW 330i of Will Turner and Don Salama.
"It feels really good to get a win at Daytona," said Schmitt.
"This is my first win in Grand-Am Cup and to do it at Daytona is great," added Roush.
The Grand-Am Cup Series returns to the track on April 22, 2006 at the Virginia International Raceway.
