Rum Bum Racing Has Early End to Strong Run at Lime Rock Park

LAKEVILLE, CT-28 MAY 2010 - Rum Bum Racing's race day at Lime Rock Park came to an early end on Saturday as the team chased a return to the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge podium for the second consecutive race.

Drivers Gian Bacardi and Matt Plumb established the No. 13 Rum Bum Racing BMW M3 as the car to beat early in the weekend, with chart-topping times in both of Friday's practice sessions.

That strong pace was on display come race time, as young Gian Bacardi didn't look at all like a rookie making his first visit to the high-speed 1.5-mile circuit in Northwest Connecticut. His lap times came down as his placement moved up in the Grand Sport-only race, which was the Saturday afternoon feature event at Lime Rock.

But his move forward was thwarted when some close racing got to be too close. Fighting with the same BMW M3 that went on to win the race, Bacardi's suspension was damaged.

Bacardi duly came in for repairs, turning the machine over to Plumb to take over. But the damage was too severe to keep the pace and be in contention, so the car was taken to the garage to get a head start on preparations for next weekend.

"I was on the outside, and he was on the inside, but going to the next corner it put me on the inside and I had the corner," said Bacardi. "But we made contact and on the next corner, the car wouldn't steer right so I had to bring it in. It's too bad because I was having fun and I think we could have had a good result again with Matt driving at the finish. Hopefully Watkins Glen will work out better!"

Rum Bum Racing will make the needed repairs and have the BMW M3 ready to go for round six at famed Watkins Glen International as Bacardi looks forward to adding another GRAND-AM Continental Tire race start to his resume as he and Plumb look to get back to victory lane next Saturday.
