Lamb and Thilenius Earn Third in ST Race at Lime Rock
May 31, 2007 - LAKEVILLE, Conn. - Todd Lamb and Dave Thilenius earned their first podium finish of the season during Saturday's KONI Challenge Street Tuner race at LimeRockPark, taking a hard-fought third place in the No. 27 Bill Fenton Motorsports Acura RSX-S.
The No. 29 Acura of Bill Fenton and Bob Beede also finished strong with a seventh-place showing. The Acura was poised for a top-five finish before low fuel forced Beede to take it easy for the last several laps.
The weekend got off to a challenging start for Lamb and Thilenius as they struggled to learn the track and find the right setup for their Acura. Thilenius qualified 12th, and by the time the race began they had the car dialed in and were ready to push for the front.
Thilenius moved from 12th to seventh early in his stint, which included plenty of excitement when another car made contact with his and knocked out the tow in the right rear. After an hour of racing Thilenius pitted to hand the No. 27 Acura over to Lamb.
Despite the handling issues that arose due to the earlier contact, Lamb was able to work his way up to third, thanks to excellent pit strategy by crew chief Steve Wheeler. Beede, driving the No. 29 Bill Fenton Acura, was working a different pit strategy and was holding down fourth before fuel consumption became his primary concern. The slower pace he had to run to make it to the checkered flag dropped him to seventh.
Lime Rock marks the second podium finish of the season for Bill Fenton Motorsports, and the first for Lamb and Thilenius. It is also the first time this season that both the No. 27 and 29 cars have finished in the top ten together.
"This podium has been coming for a long time, but Dave and I want that win," said Lamb. "It was nice to get a good finish for the Honda-Acura guys who were here this weekend, and it was fun running with teammate Bob Beede there at the end. Lime Rock was tough; I don't think I really figured the track out until the end of the race."
