Craig Conway powered the Spirit of Daytona No. 9 Daytona Mitsubishi/ Diamond Suzuki/ Crane Cams/ CORSA Exhaust sponsored GTO to a 30th qualifying position for the Grand Am Cup 250. The GTO flew around the corkscrew, hugged the course's corners and hung onto the track during the Mazda Raceway Grand Am Cup qualifying session. Spirit of Daytona is looking for a fast race on Saturday afternoon. The French Canadian co-driver, Marc-Antoine Camirand was behind the GTO's wheel during Friday's practice session and was second on the leader board.

During the qualifying session, Conway knew he only had a finite amount of time to get a hold of a fast lap. He was able to squeeze a fast lap in during the last few moments of the session. Conway said, "It's all about the line that I take. It will make or brake the lap time. It is critical to hit the apex perfectly. If you don't hit it right you can miss the whole next corner. This track is similar to VIR's with its technical corners. I really want a good finish at this race."

GTO team manager, Todd Flis said, "Conway's pace will be great during the race. If he continues to do what he has been doing, than we will have a front running car. We need to run flat out the entire race, just flat out and forward." As Conway works his way to the front of the pack, co-driver Camirand will be preparing himself for a front running car. Camirand said, "Craig needs to stay on the lead lap, keep the car clean and in one piece and then we will see what happens."
