All-Make Festival Provides Fun, Entertainment For Car Enthusiasts
MONTEREY, Calif. (April 26, 2006) -- Opportunities for car enthusiasts to meet and greet other automobile aficionados will abound during the second annual MarqueMadness "all marque" car festival, held during the U.S. Sports Car Invitational at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca May 5-7. Providing events in virtually all areas of interest for automotive enthusiasts, MarqueMadness fueled by Shell V-Power makes every car owner a participant rather than just a spectator during the race weekend that features the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve. From social opportunities and VIP parking corrals, a popular vote "Funcours" and a judged car show, to laps around the 2.238-mile Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, MarqueMadness provides an opportunity for everyone.
The focus of the festival will be fun and camaraderie with other sports car owners, including special reserved parking in the Marque Club Corrals, and the MarqueMadness Bar-B-Q Mixer. The Club Corrals provide VIP parking to each participant to park amongst fellow owners. The mixer provides a unique social gathering for all participants with special VIP guests from the motorsports world, including drivers from the Rolex Sports Car Series.
"The idea of MarqueMadness fueled by Shell V-Power was to create an atmosphere for car enthusiasts that allow them to show off their cars, in a casual and social environment," said Jim McCord, the founder of MarqueMadness. "While we will have a car show, MarqueMadness it is more about the 'Spirit of the Marque' and less on the ultimate spit shine." "Funcours" participants will be judged in categories such as "the car I'd most like to drive on Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca" and "The One I'd Most Want To Steal". For the purest, there will be other judged categories, with champions crowned based on judges from Club Sportiva.
The hub of the MarqueMadness festival will be the exclusive trackside VIP Hospitality Tent that will provide food and drink, a live TV feed of the on-track action at the U.S. Sports Car Invitational as well as an exclusive bleacher viewing area at the Andretti Hairpin (turn 2).
"I attended all of the events associated with MarqueMadness last year and look forward to participating this year. A weekend shared with other enthusiasts, attending the race venues and talking to a wide sampling of experience is the hallmark of MarqueMadness," said 2005 MarqueMadness participant Tony Ripepi.
MarqueMadness is more than the average car show. Participants will have an opportunity to take "Hot & Loud Laps" around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Thursday, May 4th, interspersed throughout the test day for all race series participating in the U.S. Sports Car Invitational. In addition, participants will be treated to parade laps during the Saturday lunch hour.
"One thing that we've discovered is that MarqueMadness also provides the perfect venue for corporations and organizations to increase their awareness with the car enthusiast," said McCord. "Our title sponsor, Shell V-Power, is supporting the festival for the second year as the V-Power gasoline is designed with the engines of performance cars in mind. Piloti Driving Shoes, Hooked On Driving, Dinan Cars, and 2Bennett Audimotive are all supporting the all marque festival concept as well."
"In turn, MarqueMadness supports The Wheelchair Foundation and Rancho Cielo as our charities," McCord continued. "Fundraising activities for these two organizations will take place during the festival through donations and other events."
MarqueMadness also has something for those looking for action away from the track. Two days of Autocross competition will be held at the Marina Airport. The first day will be Intra-Club Rivals for each club to compete among its own cars -- Vipers running against Vipers, Lotuses against Lotuses, and so on. The MarqueMadness guidelines for classes will be stock, street modified, and modified within each club. The Second Day is dubbed The Shootout. Depending on overall turnout, the goal will be to invite all drivers from day one to the shootout. The eventual winners will announced and awards presented on the winner's circle podium at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Saturday the 6th of May. Two competition Rallyes are also planned, as well as fun rallye "The Tour de Vin", a drive to visit and taste at some of the area's wineries.
