Solid sixth for Burrows and Hopwood at Laguna
(Monterey, CA) 19 May 07--Adam Burrows and Trevor Hopwood finished sixth in Saturday's Grand-Am KONI Challenge ST Class race in the Turner Motorsport BMW 330i. Burrows started the 112-lap race from the front row and ran in the lead pack before pitting to turn the car over to Hopwood, who rejoined the fray in twentieth position. As he was working his way back up the order, Hopwood suffered a spin but recovered perfectly to only lose a handful of seconds on the lap.
Hopwood worked his way back up to fourth, but as the weather conditions on the Monterey peninsula changed from a heavy fog to clear blue skies, he had to battle with some increasingly recalcitrant handling on the 330i. But the New Hampshire native was able to manage the Hoosiers as he brought the blue and yellow machine across the line in sixth at the finish.
"Adam did a great job at the start today," said Hopwood. "This is the first time this car hasn't been completely cooperative for us all season, but the important thing is we have a good car for next weekend and we are leaving here with more points toward the championship. I love Lime Rock and I can't wait to race there next weekend. I'm confident the Turner boys will have the car all sorted for their home track."
"I'm thrilled to be getting out of here with some solid points and a race car that's ready to go at Lime Rock," said Burrows. "We were shooting for a top five this weekend, but we'll take sixth and be happy with the event. There is a long way to go in this championship and these kinds of results add up at the end."
The cross-country trek will be taxing on the Turner crew, but the trip will be worth it as Grand Am invades the picturesque Northwest Corner of Connecticut at Lime Rock Park.
"I'm really looking forward to next weekend," said Burrows. "I have a lot of great memories from Lime Rock and it's close to home for me and all the Turner guys, so hopefully we can have another good weekend like we did here at Laguna."
