BSI Racing: Readies for the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
BSI and Team Garcia Racing are excited to be competing on the West Coast this Saturday, May 19 at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The majority of the BSI KONI Challenge Mazda MX-5 drivers are extremely familiar and comfortable with the twists and turns of the 2.2 mile track. In the No. 58 JustRacing.com MX-5 car, Northern California teammates Justin Hall and Magnus Karlsson have spent countless laps and hours on the hill top track. As for the drivers of the No. 56 Mazda/Joe Gibbs/ MOMO race car, Todd Buras has had a successful history at the race track finishing on the pole last year in an MX-5 Cup car, however; this will be teammate Carlos Garcia's first stint on the track.
The west coast track is a welcome change for drivers Hall and Karlsson. The drivers have history at Laguna Seca, unlike the previous three tracks the drivers have competed on this season. Both Hall and Karlsson have raced at Laguna Seca in the SCCA Regional SFR series. Hall has won both the SCCA San Francisco Region Pro Spec Miata Challenge Series and SCCA SFR Spec Miata Regional championships with many of the races taking place at Laguna Seca. Karlsson pretty much cut his racing teeth on the twisty turns of the Monterey race track, having competed in the 4 Hour RDC Illgen Enduro race at Laguna Seca last year. In an SCCA Regional race two weekends ago, Karlsson raced at Laguna Seca and had a top-10 finish out of a 50 plus field. Already after two practice sessions during the Promoter's Test Day this week, both drivers are feeling confident about their race day results.
Coming out of the two practice sessions on Thursday, the No. 56 ST car holds one of the fastest lap times of the day by Todd Buras. Buras didn't fight a learning curve while on the California track, he picked up right where he left off from last May's race. After the practice sessions Garcia was a fast learner on the Laguna track. Garcia and Buras will both have ample time at the track this weekend because they will also be racing in the MX-5 Cup Series. With twice the amount of time on track both drivers will have time to find the perfect line for the race.
