Knobel Racing announces plans for 2005 Grand Am Cup season

Knobel Racing, based in Ft. Lauderdale Florida has announced its intentions to participate in the Grand Am Cup series in 2005 with its Porsche 996. Knobel Racing entered its first Grand Am Cup race late in the 2004 season at the "hurricane-delayed" Miami 250 in Homestead Florida.

Although it was the team's first Grand Am Cup event and the lack of series points left them starting from the back of the grid with the condensed, no- qualifying format, the team finished a strong second place with the help of good pit stops and solid strategy.

Drivers for the #88 GS class Porsche will be Fraser Wellon of Mississauga, Ontario Canada, Frank Rossi from Kleinberg Ontario, and Barry Ellis of Ft. Lauderdale Florida. All three drivers have been regulars in the Panoz Racing Series the last two years with Ellis capturing the overall series championship in 2003 and 2004.

Ellis says, "We are very excited about the Grand Am Cup program for 2005 although we expect there to be a steep learning curve for all of us. We will have to learn some new tracks and really focus on car set-up to be able to compete with the talent and experience that exists in this series."

Sponsors already signed on for the Knobel Racing Porsche for 2005 are, Hop- A-Jet Worldwide Jet Charter, Cayman Overseas Development and Stone Technique. Additional support for the new team is expected to materialize prior to the opening round of the Grand Am Cup series in Daytona this February.
