Ian James, one of the drivers who led Team Lexus to the Grand-Am Cup ST class championship last season, has rejoined the prestigious team.
James collected his first victory for Team Lexus in the finale at Daytona International Raceway last November. Additionally, he had two third-place finishes and was fourth in the championship in 2002.
"I'm very glad to be back with Team Lexus," said James. "They have put together a good team and have been able to achieve quite a bit of success in the past two years with the Lexus IS 300. They have given me a great platform on which to show my driving capability. It's always a pleasure to drive for a manufacturer of Lexus' status that constantly gives you a first-rate car, time after time."
James, continuing on from his open wheel career in Europe, has experienced success in the Grand-Am Cup series, winning races in the past three years driving a Lexus, BMW and Porsche. Additionally, Ian James competed in five selected Rolex Grand-Am Championship races in 2002 - three SRP races, where he had one podium finish (third), and two GT class events.
In addition to racing for Team Lexus, James is also an instructor for the Lexus Performance Driving School, where he teaches Lexus employees and guests how to finesse their luxury car on the street, handle evasive maneuvers, stop instantaneously and other performance driving skills. James also teaches high performance driving techniques at the Mid-Ohio Racing School.
"I definitely feel that my driving instructing and racing are a great compliment to each other," said Florida resident Ian James, originally from England.
The Lexus IS 300 is powered by an in-line V6 with 3.0-liter displacement. The 235 horsepower engine can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds. The top track speed of the Lexus IS 300 is 151.7 mph and has a Getrag 6-speed manual transmission.
