G&W Motorsports Suffers Early Exit from Grand-Am Cup Race

MIAMI, Fla. (September 18, 2004) -- The Grand-Am Cup Series El Combate de Velocidad! 250 was cut short for G&W Motorsports today. After only a few laps, the team's No. 81 Porsche 996, sponsored by W&T Offshore and Brooke, was taken into the garage with clutch problems.

It was second time clutch issues had appeared on No. 81 Porsche today, a problem that Team Manager Price Cobb described as 'unexplainable.'

This weekend's Grand-Am Cup and Rolex Series races were originally scheduled for last weekend but postponed due to Hurricane Ivan. In addition to rescheduling the event, the weekend was condensed from three days to two, resulting no qualifying and only 1.5 hours of Grand-Am Cup practice time earlier today before the race.

Tracy Krohn (Manderville, La.) started the No. 81 Porsche on the fifth row after the grid was set based upon team owner point standings. Since Krohn was forced to bring the car in early and it was unable to return to the race, co-driver Joe Fox (Charlotte, N.C.) never got a chance behind the wheel and will not receive any points for the race.

The Grand-Am Cup Series El Combate de Velocidad! 250 will air on SPEED Channel tonight at 10 p.m. ET.

G&W Motorsports will field two entries in Sunday's Miami 250, featuring the Rolex Sports Car Series. The green flag will fall at 11 a.m., with live coverage on SPEED Channel.
