Lexus new event Sponsor at California Speedway for upcoming Grand-Am Cup race.
FONTANA, Calif. (June 2, 2003) --- California Speedway and Lexus announced an agreement naming Lexus as the event title sponsor of the June 7 Grand-Am Cup Series race -- the Lexus Grand American 250, presented by your Southern California Lexus Dealers -- as part of the Grand American Road Racing Association weekend at the Speedway, June 6-8.
"The sponsorship support of Lexus affirms their commitment to the Grand-Am Cup Series and California Speedway," said speedway President Bill Miller.
The Lexus Grand American 250, presented by your Southern California Lexus Dealers will be the featured race on Saturday and is the second annual Grand-Am Cup Series race on California Speedway's 2.8-mile, 21-turn road course. The race is a prelude to Sunday's Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series race -- the Grand American 400.
"Lexus is extremely happy to be part of the Grand American series race weekend at California Speedway," said Mike Wells, Lexus vice president of marketing. "Lexus has had a great deal of success on the racetrack in the Grand-Am Cup series with Team Lexus -- winning two championships last year. This California Speedway title sponsorship is just another example of the commitment that Lexus is making to the Grand-Am Cup series."
The Grand-Am Cup Series features race cars that are actual production cars straight off the showroom floor with only minimal racing modifications to enhance safety and performance. There are four classes competing in Grand-Am Cup Series events: Grand Sport I (GS I), which is made up of high-end sports and GT car models (Porsche and Corvette as examples); Grand Sport II (GS II), which includes popular sports and muscle cars (Toyota Supra Turbo, Pontiac Firebird as examples); Sport Touring I (ST I), which features small-to-midsize, four-door sedans and sport coupes (Lexus IS 300 and Toyota Supra as examples); Sport Touring II (ST II), which includes small sedans from many of the world's top car manufacturers (Toyota Celica and Pontiac Sunfire as examples). Team Lexus competes in the ST I class.
Tickets for the June 6-8 Grand American weekend can be purchased by calling 1-800-944-RACE (7223) or logging onto www.californiaspeedway.com. Additional information about Grand-Am Cup is available on the Grand American website at www.grandamerican.com.
