TC Kline Racing takes third podium in last three races

June 11, 2003 -- TC Kline Racing came away with its third podium finish this past Friday afternoon at the California Speedway. Despite having to start the race on new tires and going down a lap early in the race due to an ill-timed, full-course yellow flag, the #12 BMW Z4 scored a third place finish in the ST1 class at the California 250. This comes after a second place finish at Barber Motorsports Park and a third place at Phoenix International Raceway.

Twenty minutes into the race, the overall race leader had just passed the #12 Z4 when the track went full course yellow, positioning the Z4 down a lap to the Porsche Boxster and the Lexus IS300. However, Steve Pfeffer did a credible job holding off the balance of the field for the next hour and ten minutes. After a well-timed and executed pit stop late in the race to refuel and change drivers, Don Salama came out of the pits in 3rd and spent the last hour of the race working to eliminate the gap to the second place Lexus. At the flag, Don had narrowed the gap to 18 seconds.

"Because we lost a lap early in the race, the best we could do was 3rd, and that's what we did." Commented TC Kline, team owner. "Don was turning faster lap times than the second place car, but just didn't have enough time to close in."

The #92 car, piloted by two new drivers to the team, Rick Ellinger and Beau Buisson, finished an admirable 7th in their first outing of the year.

The California 250 will be aired on SpeedVision on July 5th at 3:30 ET. The Grand Am Cup Series moves on to Watkins Glen for race number six on June 20.

TC Kline Racing is located in Columbus, Ohio and continues to be a recognized and well-respected name in racing as it has been for more than 15 years. In 1999, TC Kline Racing opened a specialty tuner division through which BMW enthusiasts can obtain the same custom-designed TC Kline parts that are used in the team's race cars. TC Kline Racing is the first team to race BMW Z4s in professional competition. The team has taken three podium finishes of the first five races.
