USERA Competitor Overcomes Adversity to Finish at Daytona

DANVILLE, VA. (January 31, 2006) -- 2006 USERA Spec Miata Endurance Championship driver Shawn Dewey (Townsend, DE), with co-driver Heb Sweeney (Spring City, PA), tackled the difficult Daytona International Speedway in Daytona, Florida for their first Grand-American Grand-Am Cup race of the 2006 season. In addition to competing in the 2006 USERA Spec Miata Endurance Championship, Dewey and Sweeney plan to compete in the Grand-Am Cup series in their Mazda-6.

Dewey qualified the Mazda-6 30th in a field of 37 cars in the Street Tuner class. Excited to take the green flag, Dewey's race was interrupted when the shift lever broke on the formation lap. Dewey pitted and the team began making repairs. The S&D Motorsports Mazda-6 retuned to the track after being in the garage for just over an hour. Dewey and Sweeney completed 27 laps of the 57 lap contest, but more importantly finished their first Daytona Grand-Am Cup event.
