Burrows and Hopwood lead ST Class testing at Daytona; Quick learners bolt to top of the charts in just their second day in the car
(Daytona Beach, FL) 6 January 07-- That didn't take long.
2007 Grand-Am KONI Challenge ST Class Champions Adam Burrows and Trevor Hopwood got a fast start to their Championship defense this weekend, setting the fastest lap of the Sunday morning session with a 2:10.376-second flyer in testing at the World Center of Speed in their new Compass360 Racing Acura TSX.
"I might have had a little bit of a tow on that lap but we're still really happy with how things have started," said Burrows. "We have to adjust to a lot of things- moving to front wheel drive, a different powerband, and a new team, but this is a good start. Everyone here at Compass360 is right on their game and really focused, so we're looking forward to getting a little more comfortable with the car and seeing where we are for the race."
The Champions, who turned heads by signing with the team that was their closest pursuer through the 2007 season, have shown that they can be quick no matter what they are piloting.
"There is a lot of close competition in this class with some great cars and some strong teams, but we are happy with the way things have started here this weekend," said Hopwood. "I'm not sure that the turbo cars are showing everything that they have quite yet so I think that's going to be a big challenge but we are excited about it. This car is more fun to drive than I expected, but what I am really looking forward to is racing with it."
Burrows and Hopwood will wrap up testing this weekend and will return to action in two weeks' time for the Fresh From Florida 250 on January 25th. Speed Channel broadcast date to be determined.
