In Grand Am Koni Challenge ST class Wittmer Brothers To Campaign With I-Moto

Montreal, Quebec.-- Nick and Kuno Wittmer will take to the track together in 2008, sharing driving duties in an i-Moto Acura TSX in the Grand Am Sport Touring class of the KONI Challenge series. The Wittmer duo had outstanding outings last year with several podiums -- Daytona (3rd) and Iowa (2nd) --, but their main accomplishment remains their outright victory at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, where they also earned pole position. In his rookie season in this highly competitive touring car series, younger Nick was the surprise of the field with four 4 podiums on tracks he had to learn in the process -- except in Canada --, including the fastest lap on occasion. Nick was the driver with the most laps led from both classes (GS and ST), even with three combined class races, where he could not lead a single lap. These results will obviously make him one of the drivers contending for the title in 2008.

"When I look back at my maiden season in Grand Am, says Nick, I have to be pretty proud of the results. Starting grids are impressive and contacts are always on your mind. You have to be able to hold your position in your class, let faster GS cars by and pass a number of slower cars after a pit stop. The team did a great job along the way: we were always fast and kept improving our pit stop strategy race after race. Still, the "dream come through moment", remains my victory with Kuno in Trois-Rivières. For 2008, it will be exciting to team up with my brother as of race two.

"I am thrilled to share an i-Moto Acura TSX with Nick for the season, adds Kuno. Glenn (Bocchino) worked very hard on the cars in the off season and we should once again be able to rely on our Cobalt performance brakes, like those we had for our win in Trois-Rivières. I'm waiting to see what will happen with my season in World Challenge, but it's nice to know that Nick and I will be in Daytona this weekend, on the same i-Moto team and together for the rest of the schedule."

Nick with Bocchino and Kuno with Cunningham

Breaking news has it that for Daytona Koni Challenge round, Nick will team up with driver owner Glenn Bocchino while Kuno pairs with SWC team mate Peter Cunningham. "We tested the cars at Roebling in Georgia over the last days because we wanted to be ready, claims Nick. We were quite satisfied with the new setups. Glenn was a strong 5th last year and is looking to step on the podium this year. The i-Moto foursome is ready to take the cars to the stripe and the best scenario would have all four of us on the podium!"

The new Kunick Autosport era

For the Wittmer brothers, 2008 means a switch to a new label, KUNICK Autosport. "Tying up are names says it all, because we will drive together this year, states Nick. Ste-Rose Honda remains one of our main sponsors. The third generation of our family has definitely taken over. There have been a Wittmer involved in motorsports for more than 40 years."
