The Other Side of the Lexus Grand American Champions Weekend: Driver Autographs, Halloween Treats and a Heart Walk
FONTANA, Calif. (October 20, 2004) --- When the Grand American Road Racing Association rolls into town, first-class racing is sure to follow. Though it might be hard to admit, there is more to life than just racing and California Speedway has gone the extra mile to ensure that there is something for everyone to be a part of during the Lexus Grand American Champions Weekend on October 29-31.
Showing the "other" side of racing is easy to do when road racers come to Southern California. The weekend will include a kick-off party/autograph session on Thursday, a full-scale driver autograph session on Saturday and a heart walk on Sunday.
To help kick the race weekend off, a handful of Grand American racers will sign autographs at the California Speedway display during the Redlands Market Night on Thursday, October 28 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Drivers scheduled to appear include Max Papis, Scott Pruett, Luis Diaz, Jimmy Morales, Oswaldo Negri and Burt Frisselle. The market night is a weekly event where visitors are welcomed into an inviting atmosphere complete with lighted trees, brick sidewalks, historic buildings, great musical entertainment, tantalizing food and for the first time, professional drivers will join in on the festivities. Open from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., this is perfect opportunity to see what all the fuss surrounding Redland's Market Night is all about.
Another autograph session, featuring more than fifty racers, will be held at California Speedway on Saturday, October 30 from 11:30 - 12:30 p.m. Race goers can get up close and grab an autograph from their favorite road racer, including Boris Said, Max Papis, Scott Pruett and countless more. The autograph session will be held near the VIP motorcoach area, which is east of the water tower.
In addition to snagging plenty of autographs, a special Halloween treat will be available for guests on Saturday. At the end of the autograph line on Saturday, children will be treated Halloween candy. Guests can also pick up a complimentary event program at the California Speedway display on vendor mid-way beginning Friday of race week. Candy and event programs are limited and available on a first come, first served basis.
Guests will have the opportunity to explore California Speedway's 2.88-mile, 21-turn road course just hours before the sports cars take to the track for the season finale on Sunday, October 31. The 13th Annual Inland Empire Heart Walk invades the speedway during the Lexus Grand American Champions Weekend with a goal to raise $650,000 for cardiovascular and stroke education and research. To find out how you can be a part of this year's walk, contact the Inland Empire American Heart Association at 909-424-1670 or register at www.ieheartwalk.org.
Tickets for the Lexus Grand American Champions weekend are $30 for Sunday, $20 for Saturday and $10 for Friday. A three-day pass is also available for $45. Children 12 and under are free.
