Burrows and Hopwood pick up championship hardware at KONI Challenge Banquet
(Las Vegas, NV) 1 November 07--2007 Grand Am KONI Challenge champions Adam Burrows and Trevor Hopwood were honored Tuesday evening in the Grand Am KONI Challenge season awards banquet at Bally's in Las Vegas as the rookie pairing collected their KONI ST Class championship hardware. The banquet event was hosted by Speed TV personality Brian Till, with over 300 members of the KONI community including sponsors, team principles, drivers and their families on hand for the celebrations.
The event recapped the 2007 KONI Challenge season, which witnessed both the ST and GS class championships going down to the final race of the 2007 season during a tension-filled dual six hour race weekend at Virginia International Raceway in early October, which also saw fellow BMW pilots Jep Thorton and Jeff Segal take GS class honors.
Despite being rookies to the series, Burrows and Hopwood raced like seasoned veterans, showing qualifying pace with a pole position at Lime Rock Park while also showing remarkable consistency come race time with a series-record six podium finishes. After battling not just the large field of competitors, but also the pressure cooker of a close championship battle, Burrows and Hopwood relished the opportunity to relax and celebrate their championship with friends and family with an active Vegas setting.
"It was good to have some time after VIR to let this championship sink in," said Hopwood. "Brian Till and Grand Am put on a great show with this banquet and it was just a blast having my whole family out here to celebrate with me. They've been tremendously supportive-and in my mom's case tolerant- of my racing passion all these years so to have them all here with me tonight meant a lot to me. It wouldn't have been a celebration without them."
"Tonight was a great way to close out an amazing season," said Burrows. "After racing against Trevor for so many years, I was glad to have him as my teammate and go for this championship. I want to thank all my family and friends for making the trip out here to be a part of the celebrations and making it that much more special. Hopefully we can be back celebrating again a year from now!"
After scoring the KONI championship, Burrows and Hopwood are still working to finalize their plans for the 2008 season and are looking forward to an upcoming test as they evaluate a number of opportunities moving forward.
