BSI Racing to Campaign Three MX-5 Race Cars in 2007 KONI Challenge Series
ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 14, 2006)- BSI Racing, in partnership with MAZDASPEED, will be campaigning three Mazda MX-5 cars in the Grand-Am KONI Challenge Street Tuner Class. The team will unveil the No. 56 race car on December 14, 2006 during the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show in Orlando, Florida. It will be on display in the KONI Shocks booth throughout the show. The MX-5 will be one of the first competitors in the KONI Challenge Series to be running with the KONI shocks.
The Daytona Beach race team has been building and racing the MX-5 Miata since 1998. With over 100 Mazdas built and 100 victories won on track, BSI is looking forward to racing in the newly established KONI Challenge Series.
Stu Brumer, team owner, is ready to take his program up to the next level by competing in the Grand Am sanctioned series. Last year, the team competed in the SCCA Mazda MX-5 Cup series finishing third in points. Brumer said, "I am looking forward to the new season and series. We have a great driver lineup and an exciting schedule ahead of us." BSI Racing is welcoming team driver and partner Carlos Garcia into the racing mix. Garcia will be campaigning the No. 56 car under the Team Garcia Racing banner.
Garcia will be teamed up with hot shoe, Todd Buras in the No. 56 MX-5. Both drivers are incredibly familiar with the Mazda's handling. Garcia and Buras raced with BSI in the 2006 Mazda MX-5 Cup series and helped the team finish on the podium numerous times. "I am really excited to be racing with Carlos and BSI this year," said Buras. "Carlos and I were teammates last year and we would help each other out on track, but we never shared the same car. I am really looking forward to racing this year in such a competitive and exciting series like the KONI Challenge. The MX-5 has proved itself in sprint races and now it gets a chance to excel in the longer distance," said Buras.
A set of new faces joining BSI Racing and Team Garcia will be Justin Hall and Magnus Karlsson in the No. 58 MX-5. Justin Hall has acquired numerous racing honors on and off track throughout his six years in motorsports. With an abbreviated SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge 2006 season, Justin captured two B+M Holeshot awards and one Sunoco Hard Charger award in his four-race stint. In 2005, Justin dominated the competition on his way to capturing the MAZDASPEED SCCA Pro Racing Miata Cup Pacific Championship. "I am very excited to be back in the Mazda family at a professional level and to be associated with a team of BSI's caliber. It's the icing on the cake," said Hall, "I'm looking forward to the exciting endurance format which the KONI Challenge offers and couldn't be more pleased to be teamed with Magnus Karlsson as my co-driver." Karlsson has turned countless numbers of laps in the MX-5 by racing in the San Francisco Regional Spec Miata and ITA Club racing events.
BSI Racing appreciates support from Mazda, MAZDASPEED, KONI, Joe Gibbs Racing Oil, MOMO, SPEEDCOM, BBS, STACK, and Sun Belt Performance Engines.
