Two Podium Finishes for TC Kline Racing in Grand Am Cup
The TC Kline Racing BMW Z4 races team has seen significant progress since its inaugural race at Daytona this year. The two car Grand Am Cup ST1 team in just its fourth race has led the last two races and recorded two podium finishes.
At Phoenix International Raceway in mid May, the Z4 driven by Don Salama and Steve Pfeffer qualified 2nd and lead the first quarter of the race before being hit and damaged by a lapped car. Although this resulted in a 7th place finish for the pair, their teammates, David Tuaty and Branson Patch ran a strong race as well and gave the Z4 its first ever 3rd place podium finish. TC Kline said after the race "although our development program of the Z4 has progressed significantly since Daytona as can be seen by the competitiveness of our cars here, the cars are not yet at a point where they can win regularly versus the Lexus, Acura and Porsche. We are confident that by California or Mid Ohio our cars can be regularly contesting for the win."
However, at the beautiful Barber Motorsports Park race in Birmingham Alabama this last weekend, the Z4 ended up being much stronger than expected. Despite handling problems during practice and a minor brake problem during qualifying for the #12 Pfeffer/Salama Z4 that resulted in a 21st place qualifying position, the Z4s were extremely competitive on a very rainy race day. Steve Pfeffer, in less than 10 laps, took his Z4 from 21st to 1st place and led the race up until the end of the first hour when a full course yellow led to a driver change and refueling stop. Don Salama then took the #12 car from 5th to 2nd place where he battled nose-to-tail with Sylvan Tremblay in the Porsche Boxster over the last hour of the race. Pfeffer and Salama ended up with the best showing of their season with a 2nd place finish. Said Salama after the race "Although the Z4 had never been tested in the rain, Steve and I had significant rain experience with racing BMWs in the past that we could apply to the Z4 setup for the race. It paid off big time with our most competitive showing of the season!" Don't miss the great Z4, Boxster rain battle to be televised on the Speed Channel on May 31st at 1pm EST.
The TC Kline racing program moves on the California Speedway during the first weekend of June where further development will hopefully bring the BMW Z4 its first professional win.
TC Kline Racing is located in Columbus, Ohio and continues to be a recognized and well-respected name in racing as it has been for more than 15 years. In 1999, TC Kline Racing opened a specialty tuner division through which BMW enthusiasts can obtain the same custom-designed TC Kline parts that are used in the team's race cars.
