A New Challenge For Plumb at Barber
(Birmingham, AL) 17 July 2008-- The last time Matt Plumb raced at Barber Motorsports Park, he shared a front-wheel drive Honda with his brother Hugh, racing to victory in KONI Challenge competition as the duo made their charge to second place in the season championship.
Fast forward two years, and Plumb will be ready for something entirely different this weekend for the Porsche 250 presented by Bradly Arant.
Fresh from a strong run at Daytona, which saw Plumb keep the No. 7 Rumbumracing.com machine moving up the scoring tower despite some challenges with the differential which made for unpredictable handling, Plumb will look to score another top-ten result with co-driver Gene Sigal this weekend in his rookie year of Daytona Prototype racing.
So while he has some race-winning experience at the track, it is easy to understand why Plumb is anxious to get to the facility and put some fast laps behind the wheel of the Rumbumracing.com Racing BMW-Riley Daytona Prototype for round nine of the 2008 Rolex Sports Car Series season as he chases another Rolex podium in what has been a stand-out season for the Rhode Island resident.
"My shoulders were absolutely burning after Daytona," said Plumb after nearly two hours of work behind the wheel of the ill-handling machine. "But the team did a great job and we left there with seventh, which was a good result given all the challenges we had during the race. Even though I've raced at Barber before, I don't think it could have been in a more different race car so I am looking forward to getting some laps in with the Rumbumracing.com BMW Riley. Gene has experience there, so that should help us in terms of getting everything up to speed this weekend, and hopefully we can get back up on the podium again soon."
