SRF teammates join forces in KONI Challenge

(17 September 2009)--Before they teamed up to make an impressive run to the Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge Championship in their rookie season of racing in the category, Adam Burrows and Trevor Hopwood had already established a fast friendship through their years of SRF competition as teammates on the powerful Motion Dynamics team.

As the two look to make it three in a row for podium appearances in the season-ending Bosch Engineering Octoberfest at Virginia International Raceway on October 4th, the duo will be joined by another SRF stalwart and teammate as Andy Bentinck-Smith will join RSR Motorsports to co-drive the No. 198 Fischer Ski MINI Cooper S.

The VIR event, which has been condensed from a six-hour ST Class-only event to a combined GS and ST four-hour race on Sunday, will be the first KONI Challenge race appearance for Bentinck-Smith, who calls Duxbury, Massachusetts home. That he's doing so in a Mini is hardly a coincidence, as both Trevor Hopwood and team principal Randy Smalley both made their first KONI race outings in the eye-catching Mini racer.

While the experience of racing in a production-based machine might be a new one for Bentinck-Smith, the mixed-class format at VIR won't be a new one as he's experienced hundreds of laps at VIR running in mixed company before.

"Adam, and I ran a 13-hour race at VIR in the Spec Racers and we had a blast," said Bentinck-Smith. "We were talking about that race earlier this summer, and one thing led to another, and now, I'm going be racing with Trevor and Adam instead of against them. I'm really looking forward to it and I want to thank (team owner) Randy Smalley for letting me come be a part of the season finale. It might take a session or two to adjust to driving this car, but I know I'll be in good hands and of course have some great co-drivers!"
