Q&A WITH B+ RACING DRIVERS AL CARTER & HUGH PLUMB BEFORE THE GRAND-AM 200 AT DAYTONA
B+ Racing drivers Al Carter and Hugh Plumb talk about their B+ Racing program in the 2011 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and their first race at Daytona International Speedway this coming Friday.
Al Carter Talks about the new season: "I'm very excited to be joining Fall-Line Motorsports to drive a BMW M3 in the 2011 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and represent the B+ Foundation," announced Al Carter. "To know that the 2010 Fall-Line championship winning car completed every green flag lap raced en route to winning last year's Continental Challenge, puts me and co-driver, Hugh Plumb, right where we want to be in terms of reliability. Mark Boden has done a tremendous job in assembling a great team to run in 2011. Both Charles Espenlaub and Charlie Putman, who scored the 2010 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge GS Class Drivers title have been very helpful in sharing their experiences with the Fall-Line team cars. I'm thrilled to have a seat in Fall-Line's multi car team of BMW'S that will continue to be a force in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge".
About carrying the B+ Foundation name and logo on his race car: "Our #45 BMW will proudly be carrying the sponsorship of the B+ Foundation. This foundation was founded to honor the legacy of Andrew McDonough and is doing tremendous work in helping children and their families in their battle against childhood cancers. As a cancer survivor, I hope to bring recognition to this worthy cause. Racing for Fall-Line Motorsports gives us a great desire and motivation to see ourselves sporting out B+ Tee shirts on many podiums in 2011".
About his teammate, Hugh Plumb: "I call my co-driver Hugh Plumb the Bo Derek of Grand-Am racers. Not only is he fast, but his instruction and insight into the racing game is exemplary. In the short time we raced together, Hugh has helped my learning curve shoot up quickly, and the race data doesn't lie. Our families have become tight, we have become good friends, and we are both having fun enjoying the game of racing together".
About driving a Fall-Line BMW for the entire season knowing that Fall-Line is the 2010 champion: "Fall Line has shown in a short time that they can win races and championships, something that is very hard to do. Mark Boden has done a superior job surrounding himself with talented people that all share the common goal and that is to turn out well prepared cars, capable of winning races each weekend. I am proud to be a part of this and producing good results for Fall Line".
About his teammate Al Carter: "I am more excited about my teammate than anything. This is a guy that had only driven Skip Barber up until last year, our first year was a commitment to learn new tracks, get up to speed in a Continental Challenge car and get races under his belt. He has far exceeded my expectations and gets faster every time he gets in the car. He has a very smart approach that is extremely important for consistent top finishes. He not only has talent but is also a class act guy that has become a good friend".
About carrying the colors of the B+ Foundation for the entire season: "B+ is a Foundation that I had heard about and seen around and was always interested in knowing more about it. I got to meet Joe McDonough and hear about his foundation first hand. He is truly an inspirational man, with a vision of doing good things for families fighting childhood cancer, and teaching all to Be Positive and live like his son Andrew did. I am honored to be a part of his quest to spread awareness to fight childhood cancer, and help to change kids and peoples lives along the way".
About his expectations for this first 2001 race at Daytona: "My expectations are high for Daytona, I think we will need to be smart and consistent, if this happens we will be on the podium".
