Grand American announces 2003 SPEED Channel broadcast schedule. SPEED to air five Rolex Series races live beginning with Rolex 24.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 31, 2003) -- Grand American Road Racing Association announced today its SPEED Channel broadcast schedule for the 2003 Rolex Sports Car Series and Grand-Am Cup Series. SPEED Channel will broadcast the complete 12-race Rolex Series season, including five live races beginning with this weekend's Rolex 24 At Daytona. SPEED will also air 12 Grand-Am Cup races this season.
SPEED Channel's 16 hours of Rolex 24 live coverage will begin on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 12:30 p.m. ET, with pre-race ceremonies and Grand Marshal Bobby Rahal saying the most famous words in motorsports - "Drivers start your engines." The green flag will fall at 1 p.m. ET, and SPEED Channel will follow the action live into the night. Saturday's broadcast will end at 9 p.m. ET.
Live coverage will resume Sunday morning at 6 a.m. ET, where SPEED Channel will update race fans with what happened during the night and follow the final hours of racing live to the checkered flag at 1 p.m. ET. and the Victory Lane celebration that follows.
SPEED Channel will also have extensive coverage of the Rolex Series pair of six-hour races this season. The classic Six Hours of The Glen will be broadcast the same day of the race at 2 p.m. ET on June 22, in a five-hour show, while the 6 Hours du Circuit Mont-Tremblant will be broadcast live in its entirety beginning at 11 a.m. ET on September 21.
Three additional Rolex Series races will be broadcast live on SPEED Channel in 2003, including the Phoenix 250 from Phoenix International Raceway in May and Daytona International Speedway's Paul Revere 250 in July and Daytona Finale in November.
SPEED Channel will also provide coverage of the 2003 Grand-Am Cup Series with 12 one-hour shows highlighting some of the best production car racing in the world.
