GT pole position ends up in the lap of Magnus Racing
The Florida weather can be a guessing game during racing events and due to the fact that the Grand-Am Rolex Series use a portion of the Homestead-Miami Speedway oval, qualifying was canceled due to heavy rain. That places the #8 Starworks Ford Riley on the pole as the Daytona Prototype team is the current points leaders coming into the fourth event of the 2012 season. Enzo Potolicchio will start on the pole before handing the car over to his co-driver Ryan Dalziel in the Grand Prix of Miami event.
“This morning in practice we were really fast in the rain,” Potolicchio said. “I was happy with our setup for rain and actually, I want the rain to stay around here for the race tomorrow. I think we have a really strong package for the rain.”
I’m up for the challenge.
Michael Shank Racing’s #60 Ford Riley will line up on the front row. John Pew and Ozz Negri are second in the DP points, and this is their home race so both drivers will aim for the win on Sunday.
Pew said, “Starting on the front row is a big advantage for us-- if it is going to be wet, it will be very important from a visibility point of view. I’m up for the challenge, but if it’s dry, it’s going to be about tire management - you’ve got to not over drive and not go crazy but still push really hard. You’ve got to use your head here and hopefully we are able to be not just quicker, but also have some smart strategy when it comes to how we make the most of the tires tomorrow.”
For the GT class, the points leading Magnus Racing Porsche GT3 will be on the pole with John Potter doing the opening stint before handing the car over to Andy Lally.
