Picchio and Rafanelli in Grand-Am Competitions

04/01/2005 - Picchio and team Rafanelli concluded an agreement to take part to some of the Grand-American Rolex Sportscar series. Picchio has recently obtained the status of "Official Daytona Prototype Constructor" by Grand-Am management. The car that will hit the track is the evolution of the Daytona Prototype DP2, with several improvements made by the Picchio engineering team, including front aerodynamics, air intakes and airbox which are totally new.

Differently from the existing cars in America, that Picchio doesn't recognize as proper "Picchio cars" since they were assembled by G&W, the third DP2 has been entirely assembled in the Ancarano factory. The new car incorporates more than 70 changes overall.

There is also a power steering device as a basic feature whilst before it was an optional choice. The kinematic behaviour of the suspension system has also been revised to optimize the grip of the new Hoosier tyres that recently replaced Goodyear in the Grand-Am series. Picchio is looking at different options for power plants and is also considering to install a new engine, already approved by Grand-Am but yet to be fielded by a Daytona Prototype competitor. Top Italian drivers will be performing driving duties and the car will be entirely developed in Italy. The experience of Rafanelli's technicians and the Picchio's engineering and design resources will allow the new cars to reach their true performance level.
