Michael Shank Racing disappointed with outcome of Phoenix racing incident

(Phoenix, AZ) 13 May 06--Grand American officials have suspended Michael Shank Racing driver Oswaldo Negri from racing in the GAINSCO Grand Prix on Saturday night after a racing incident during the Friday evening qualifying race.

"This is obviously a very disappointing situation and a severe penalty, as it was clearly a racing incident, and we were already penalized after the race last night," said team owner Mike Shank. "That we were also penalized out of the lead last weekend in Laguna deepens the frustration for the team."

Driving the Flight Options Lexus-Riley with Mark Patterson will be Rod MacLeod of Scotland.

MacLoed has a long history of success in the sport, going back to his International F3 championship in 1996, through his winning ways in the Panamerican Indy Lights Championship. MacLeod has also worked as test and development driver for the Barber Dodge Pro Series and Formula BMW USA, and most recently has been distinguishing himself in the last few seasons in Mexico, racing in the Mustang Cup Mexican stock car series, and the NASCAR Mexico series last season with several top-five championship efforts south of the border.

MacLeod, who has experience in the Daytona Prototypes, was on hand for the event working with Brian Tuttle as a driver coach. Tuttle, who made available for the Mexico City round his back up car for Michael Shank Racing after a crash in practice, has once again made his resources available to the team by freeing MacLeod to race this weekend.
