ROB FINLAY AND MICHAEL VALIANTE LOOK TO CONTINUE TOP-10 STREAK AT PHOENIX INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
MOORESVILLE, NC -- (May 9, 2006) -- Rob Finlay and Michael Valiante head to Phoenix, Arizona fourth in the Rolex Series Team Point Standings. The duo's consistency has been incredible racking up six top-10 finishes in the first six races of the Rolex Series season, including two qualifying races. Although Michael Valiante and Rob Finlay have never raced the Daytona Prototype on the 1.51-mile road course of Phoenix International Raceway, they hope to continue their string of top-10 finishes.
"Things have been going as planned so far," said Rob Finlay. "Our strategy seems to be working and Michael's done a great job finishing races. This will be a big challenge for us this weekend but we're looking forward to it."
The Finlay Motorsports finishes at Laguna Seca Raceway launched Rob Finlay into the lead for the Jim Trueman Award. The award is given to the highest finishing privateer driver in the Daytona Prototype class. "I'm really excited for Rob," said Michael Valinate.
"He's been doing a great job staying out of trouble and giving me the car on the lead lap. It will be my first time racing at the Phoenix facility, we have done some testing there but I'm not sure what to expect when 40 cars hit the track. As long as we can keep our momentum going we should be right up front."
Practice for the Gainsco Grand Prix is scheduled to begin on Thursday May 11th, with the qualifying race taking place Friday night. The 250-mile contest is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start on Saturday night and can be viewed on the Speed Channel May 14th at 3:00 p.m. ET.
