Driver Darren Law confident about upcoming AJ Fine Foods 250 at Phoenix International Raceway.
Veteran Grand Am Rolex Sports Car series driver and local Ahwatukee Foothills resident Darren Law is confident about his chances in the upcoming AJ Fine Foods 250 endurance race to be held at Phoenix International Raceway during the weekend of May 1-3. Law will be in the cockpit of The Valley Group/USI Insurance BMW powered Picchio Daytona Prototype machine fielded by G&W Motorsports.
Previous successes here in Phoenix give Law a sense of confidence coming into this year's event, and combined with some comprehensive testing during the month since the last race, everybody on the G&W Motorsports team has high hopes for the coming weekend.
"The testing we did since Homestead has really lead to some gains in speed. The Daytona Prototype's are all still new and we are all on a steep learning curve figuring out what these cars like."
The Phoenix International Raceway facility, renowned for it's spectacular and daunting one-mile oval configuration, will be used as a technical and tight 1.5 mile road course for the 3-hour endurance event.
Says Law, "The infield section is pretty tight and twisty, and really kind of favors a car that handles well versus one that has big horsepower."
A huge advantage for Darren over the course of the race weekend is that he will be able to be with his family and sleep in his own bed each night, being a Phoenix resident for the past 11 years. His enthusiasm for Phoenix is evident.
"I love Phoenix. With all of the travel I do, and all of the cities our series visits, I still have yet to find anywhere else that I would prefer to live."
The Grand Am Rolex Sports Car series race will be the main event main of the AJ Fine Foods 250, and will be held under the lights on the evening of May 3.
