COMPUSA CAR TO START THIRD FOR PHOENIX 250 AT FIRST EVER DAYTONA PROTOTYPE STAND ALONE

AVONDALE, Ariz. (September 9, 2005) -- Operating without the watchful eye of 2004 Rolex Series Daytona Prototype champion Scott Pruett looking over his shoulder during Thursday's practice sessions, CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates pilot Luis Diaz guided the no.01 CompUSA Lexus-Riley to its seventh top-3 starting position with a third place qualifying effort for tomorrow night's Phoenix 250 at Phoenix International Raceway.

Pruett, who ran his 31st career Crown Royal IROC Series event at Richmond last night, was unable to contribute to the team's collection of weekend data for the 15-minute qualifier, but a determined Diaz proved to be a super sub with a top time of 57.941 seconds (93.820mph) around the 1.51-mile infield road course.

"We were a bit loose, but the times we ran weren't that far off the top lap times," said Diaz. "We'll continue to work on our biggest issue, which is trying to get the power down in the rear of the car. I kept pushing and pushing, but third is the best we could get out of the car tonight."

Diaz drove off pit road fourth out of the 21-car Daytona Prototype pack, and worked his way up the speed charts throughout his 14-lap run. Last year the CompUSA squad parlayed a pole position run into a second place finish at PIR. Diaz will start tomorrow's 250-mile (166-lap) DP-only sprint race before handing over the car to Pruett to cap off what they hope will be another podium result.
