MIAMI - October 20th2004. While most participants and officials of the Rolex Sports Car series were busy spending time with their families, mowing the lawn or catching up on some rest on a rare free weekend, Max Papis and fellow Rolex Sports Car Series crew members and officials Martin Raffauf, Jerry Woods and Tom Seabolt spent their time last weekend participating in six-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong's "Ride for the Roses" in Austin, Texas.

The event, which raises funds to support the Lance Armstrong Cancer Foundation's cancer survivorship program and research grants, was a 100-mile bicycle rides in beautiful Austin, Texas, starting at the Travis County Expo and Heritage Center. Armstrong--a cancer survivor--spoke to the crowd, while Armstrong's girlfriend, Sheryl Crow, performed the national anthem. Many celebrity riders joined the group, including actors Will Ferrell and Robin Williams. The first five miles were on a main highway with designated bicycle lanes, and after that it went on through Austin's rolling hills and cattle country.

Never one to shy away from new things, Max took on the challenge of completing his first ever 100-mile bike ride. "Not only was this my first time riding for 100 miles, it was also a challenge to ride through the hills. I live in Florida, and there aren't any hills around there," said Max.

"I really enjoyed the event and especially spending some time away from the track with my Grand-Am friends. Meeting so many cancer survivors and learning their stories, seeing their strength and determination to continue living strong, was very inspiring. This weekend was the perfect preparation for our final race of the Rolex Sports Car Series; now more than ever I have the motivation to be a Champion in my sport and in life," said Max after riding for over 5 hours.

This year's "Ride for the Roses" sold out with 6,500 participants on the Sunday morning ride. Last year the event raised more than $4.5 million for the foundation. More information about Lance Armstrong's Cancer Foundation and how to contribute to it can be found at www.laf.org/.

Max Papis and Scott Pruett will defend their Championship lead in the Lexus Grand American Champions Weekend at California Speedway on Sunday, October 31.
