FAIRFIELD, N.J.(April 3, 2000) - Archangel Motorsport Services has announced that it will compete in the 2000 Grand American Road Racing Championship. After competing in the U.S. F2000 National Championship the past five years, the Braselton, Ga. team will increase its racing efforts in 2000 by entering in the Grand-Am Championship, while continuing to race in U.S. F2000. The team will compete in the SportsRacing Light division of Grand-Am with a Lola B2K/40 Nissan V6 owned by Duke Johnson. Driving the Archangel Motorsport Services Lola B2K/40 will be ex-U.S. F2000 drivers Larry Oberto and Ryan Hampton. A four-time winner in U.S. F2000, Hampton has endurance racing experience having twice competed in the Rolex 24 At Daytona sports car race. Oberto won the U.S. F2000 American Continental Championship in 1998. "We're really excited about taking on this new challenge," said Mike Johnson, owner of Archangel Motorsport Services. "The car looks to be competitive and I know both Ryan and Larry are capable of running up front. I'm confident we will be successful in Grand-Am." After coming off a second place finish in the U.S. F2000 season-opener, the team makes its Grand-Am debut at Phoenix International Raceway April 20-21, for a 200 mile endurance race.
