Kansas City, Kan. - Fresh from a performance that saw both team entries on the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series podium last weekend at Road America, Action Express Racing was in strong form once again on Friday as the team took third and fourth on the grid for Saturday’s SFP Grand Prix at the Kansas Speedway.
Taking the inside line for the start of the race will be the No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP of Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi after Fittipaldi scored a fast time of 1:10.055-seconds to take third on the grid, with the No. 9 Action Express Racing Corvette DP of Burt and Brian Frisselle set to start along side after Burt posted a time of 1:10.081-seconds on his final flying lap to take fourth on the grid. The GRAND-AM weekend marks the debut run at the 2.37-mile oval-based circuit as the Rolex Series race is set to be broadcast live on Fox Sports 2 starting at 8:00 PM ET.
"It was a solid qualifying,” said Fittipaldi, who finished second last weekend. “I'm not 100% happy, but it was definitely a really solid qualifying and I think we have a really strong car for the race. It was very consistent in qualifying, we just didn't have that extra two 10ths for a quick lap.
But I am very happy with the car on used tires, which is what I was running on in the last practice session, and it seems like we are pretty competitive. But it is a long day tomorrow and we will see what happens.
Our focus is to do the very best we can and finish as far up as possible. We aren't even thinking about points in the championship, we are just thinking about scoring as many points as we can in each race and trying to win each one."
"The car is really good,” said Burt Frisselle, who recently celebrated his 100th Rolex Series start. “We will make some changes tonight to make it perfect for the race, but I've watched these guys deal with a lot more difficult stuff than starting from fourth place, so I am excited for tomorrow.
I know Brian and I have the best team in the paddock to capitalize on circumstance so whatever the race throws us we will be ready. I'm excited to start on the second row with Christian (Fittipaldi) and get off to a great start and hand Brian and Joao great cars."
Saturday’s SFP Grand Prix will be broadcast on FOX Sports 2 live at 8:00 PM (ET) and will re-air on Sunday at 4:00 PM (ET) on FOX Sports 1.
